Freefortin' Day 1.

15:00ish

I left the house in the Big Red Pick-Up Truck and drove over
to the Boise Town Square Mall. The parking there is free, and there
are a few bus lines which go directly downtown from there. Made it
just in time to catch the #5 line. A really cool thing about the ride
is that when I pulled in, I noticed our friend Robbie (Majin) sitting
there getting ready to head in as well. He and I hopped on the bus,
grabbed seats near each other and gabbed about the festival, music,
the Boise scene politics, and a few other things. He'll be rockin'
over at the Shredder for much of the festival. I know it's a little
off the beaten path, but still, check for shows over there, some are
going to be pretty cool.

Listened to some Digitalism through the 'phones after Robbie
hopped off. Digitalism is p h r e s h fresh! Later in the evening
I listened to a bunch of Ennio Morricone. I don't want to live in
a world where I don't get to listen to Ennio Morricone.

Currently listening to Todd Terje.

Also on the bus ride were quite a few mid-teens who were pretty
excited about going downtown to make the scene. A couple of them were
packin' folded up Razor style scooters for getting around. And
push-scootin' is the way to get around indeed! Those electric rentals
are a very popular choice with the Treefort crowd it seems.

Hopped off at the downtown underground. That's a pretty neat facility
for our transit system! Walked across the way to All About Games to
look into some dice since I may start playing in one of the weekly
games at a game store. I don't know how AAG stays in business in that
lush downtown location, but it's been working for them for quite a
while now, so good for them!

Clapped the cans back over my ears and had a meander over to Grove
Street near the Main Stage hoping for some eats, but alas, I didn't
spot any. Experiencing disappointment I created through an unfounded
expectation (that they would be out already) I wandered over to
neurolux (they don't capitalize it on the sign or their website) to
figure it out from there.

Of course upon arrival at the bar I ran immediately into some friends!
Chatted with Cheyne for a while, and we then spotted Dr. Coble and
stepped her way to catch the news. Angie introduced me to one of her
friends, she and I had a nice discussion about how neat life is
despite how difficult it can be at times. Kicked it at neurolux a bit
longer, which was pretty cool because I also got to see Russell, Liz,
Tobias, and Nastasia (forgive my spelling, I've only ever heard her
name, not seen it in print). The latter had an unpleasant experience
earlier in the day where someone made a racially-biased comment. Maybe
he didn't mean to, but what came out was inappropriate
nonetheless. Part of my lifestyle is not having that
experience. REMINDER: If you're born with privilege, check it
sometimes.

Remembering that Russell said he was going for food, I stalked him
down at Atlas Bar and asked if I could join him. We rolled over to
Matador and enjoyed some comida Mexicana nouveaux. The chips there
aren't great, white and dull in flavor, but the salsa is pretty damn
good. I had a habenero steak burrito (vegetarianism is on the list,
still kinda new on being compassionate enough to myself to be
sober). It was super yummy! The slaw they serve on the side is
refreshing, crunchy, and delightful. I will in the future be careful
to not shell out $3.5 for a 10oz horchata. Matador was quite warm
inside, and the space is beautiful. The iron work is pretty neat.

Oh, yeah! The neurolux serves a diet cola Roy Rogers if you ask nicely!

Bussed back up to TSM to grab Red before the lines stopped running
shortly after R. and I stopped by Barbarian to say hello to his
brother. Both of those fellas are really nice, I'm glad I know them.

I was able to enjoy some of the Treefort music which was coming from neurolux
courtesy of Mr. Grant Olsen and the Radio Boise KRBX remote
crew while driving. That's very cool! Sixteen year old me would not have guessed
that stuff like that would happen here. Had a couple of refreshing
near-beers down at Tenth Street Station while I worked on notes for
this, and caught up with a couple of friends there as well.

I love you folks, and I love this town!
